Lighting Fixtures
High-End Light Fixture Design
A family of ‘traditionally’ manufactured sconces and fixtures by an experienced lighting designer
Summary:
A traditionally designed and manufactured series of lighting fixtures intended to coordinate with a broader platform of bath fixtures. The entire collection was designed by our lighting designer for a high-end luxury brand of residential and hospitality lighting and plumbing products.
This portfolio project highlights the beauty of creative constraints inherent in designing product designed to be made using traditional ‘machine shop’ technology and materials. Such luxury artisan products can be sourced domestically because the margins support the cost of local production.
Responsibilities:
Concept Creation
Working under the direction of the sponsoring company, our award winning lighting designer spent weeks on concept exploration following a prescriptive, yet innovative journey to leverage the traditional fabrication technology previously established by the existing supply chain.
CAD Development
Incremental innovations were established overall within the entire product platform, while intensely iterative CAD development chased every detail of design and assembly. Our lighting designer is both a front end creative explorer, and a talented craftsman.
Design for Manufacturing
Every component and detail at every stage of development was challenged to meet the criteria of manufacturing dictated by existing partnerships in the US and overseas.

While the product development process can be customized to apply effectively to the needs of the customer and adapt to changing business objectives, Principal Design’s 5 step process is a framework that guides the design team and encourages communication with our customer’s marketing department, engineers, manufacturers, and business stakeholders.
