The Golden Goose
A novelty kitchen gadget

“Scrambled eggs inside the shell” was an in-house refresher on how to launch a product
Summary:
The Golden Goose became a viral sensation in the summer of 2014. We launch a product on Kickstarter and raise over $170,000. The excitement and press we received was enormous, and the project was widely touted as a great example of how to launch a product.
The Golden Goose’s 3D printed functional prototype was featured worldwide on influential blogs and television shows. It is now a fully patented kitchen novelty gadget. We sourced manufacturing in Asia to meet the demand, and continue to retail it online through popular channels. It is a fun product. The Goose re-invents what a kitchen tool can be, and continues to inspire curiosity and wonderment.
Responsibilities:

Opportunity Space
Who in their right mind would buy an in-shell egg scrambler? That is exactly how the opportunity to experiment with the Golden Goose was discovered, and to date we have sold over 20K units!

Intellectual Property
We stand by the utility of scrambling an egg inside the shell, if only to entertain the curious or scientifically minded. Not to mention that the soft-boiled ‘Golden egg’ being quite delicious. Inventors often come to us with clever ideas but are unsure of how to launch a product.

Manufacturing and Marketing
A novelty product like this is best sourced from a low cost supplier. When launched, the product sold at high volumes, but has settled to (steady) daily averages.

While the product development process can be customized to apply effectively to the needs of the customer and adapt to changing business objectives, our goal is always to launch a product. The best way to go about it is to hire Principal Design’s 5 step process to guide all new product design and development efforts.
